The National Tax Department provides an important role in the overall strategic development of our tax practice and the delivery of tax services to our business client and private client base. National Tax provides crucial links across the tax business and enables partners and staff to deliver a high-quality service to our clients.
Job Description
Reports to: Associate Director, National Tax.
Purpose of role:
Assist the National Tax Department with (i) the delivery of tax technical support to tax partners and staff on, predominantly, business tax matters; and (ii) the effective sharing of tax technical information and best practice across the tax practice.
Responsibilities:
Assisting client facing staff with responding to technical and practical tax issues, including technical input on new developments affecting clients of the business tax teams.
Providing technical updates on new business tax measures, including writing material for the firm’s internal and external newsletter and presenting tax issues at meetings and other forums.
Assisting with the technical content of the Sharepoint environment used to share knowledge and resources within the tax practice.
Assisting with identifying opportunities for the tax practice to communicate or work with clients on business tax topics.
Assisting with the development of technical training delivered by external providers on business tax matters, including reviewing training materials. Occasional delivery of training on business tax topics.
Involvement with the firm’s output relating to key fiscal events, such as the Budget.
Contributing to the review and development of the firm’s risk management procedures, in particular as it relates to business tax.
Other ad hoc projects or tasks as needed to enable partners and staff to deliver a high quality service to clients.
Candidate Profile
Education/Qualifications:
Degree educated (preferred)
CTA qualified and/or Chartered Accountant (essential)
Key Experience/Skills:
Significant tax experience gained within a professional services environment
Technically capable tax adviser with tax knowledge of a range of business tax matters
Experience of producing tax focused material such as presentations, newsletters and/or marketing material
Strong IT skills
Critical competencies
Client focus – ability to think commercially and put the clients of the firm first when supporting partners and staff across the tax practice.
Ability to distil complex technical tax issues and make them understandable for both specialists and non-specialists.
